Monday, Monday; Time For Uncle Jay!
Where does the time go? Another week has flown by and, once again, it is time to tune in to Uncle Jay Explains The News. This week’s word is “legacy”.

Dependence Always Involves Others
An article link posted below discusses the “hand wringing” going on within the auto industry’s concern that, while they lick their collective fingers and stick them in the air to see which way the market winds are blowing regarding alternative forms of transportation, they find themselves beholden to a new form of “foreign reliance”. This time it is not oil; it is precious metals needed to manufacture hybrids!

So, in our rush to become less dependent on foreign oil, are we going to find ourselves dependent on foreign precious metals instead? When are we going to drill here, drill now AND dig here, dig now? As much as I am in favor of “protecting the environment” I am also in favor of regulating exploration and removal of precious minerals (oil, gold, etc.) from domestic land in order to stop reliance on foreign whims, be they Arab or Asian.
Separation Of Church And State
Much has been said regarding the phrase “separation of church and state”, specifically what it means. It increasingly has been translated to infer that the church has no business in government, while government has no business promoting religion. Here is an interesting (albeit lengthy) article addressing, from an historical perspective, the origin of this phrase first penned by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists:

Here is an excerpt that quite possibly sheds new light regarding the controversy surrounding just what Jefferson meant and how this “separation of church and state” first came to be:
In the Book of Exodus, God establishes a civil leader for his people in Moses. He also establishes a religious leader in Aaron. Then he does something really interesting: He commands that they remain separate forever. If the king tries to supersede the religious authority of the priesthood, God will destroy him, as he does in 2 Chronicles, cursing a king named Uzziah for conducting a religious rite in the temple. Of course, God was God of the state, as well as the religion. He gave guidance to Moses just as surely as he did to Aaron. He just precluded the civil leader from also being the religious leader. Undoubtedly, God understood that without that distinction, all kings would be like Henry VIII. Separation of church and state, then, is actually a Biblical principle….
Jefferson understood this distinction, which is why he could assure the Danbury Baptists that there was a “wall of separation between church and state,” ensuring that the government would never dictate or enforce religious decrees, while at the same time he also recognized God through the government, and based the legitimacy of both on Him.
The sad truth is, as is increasingly evident, we continue to propagate the lie and, as a result, we will have only ourselves to blame when it all comes crashing down. Fact is, God will neither be mocked nor ignored. And, when as a people we elect to the highest office in the land a leader who denies this to be a Christian nation while confessing to be a Christian, we are well down the path of entering into captivity in like manner as the people in the days of ancient Egypt found themselves.
Within this, we can only hope for future generations that, once again as in those days of ancient Egypt, God will raise up a Moses who will lead our nation out of slavery and back into “One Nation Under God”.
Although, I do seem to remember, it wasn’t too long after beginning their journey to the Promised Land that the Israelites were bowing down to the image of a calf and participating in a sex orgy while Moses was up on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments!
