Connecting The Dots

Remember when you were a kid and you would purchase a puzzle book that had pictures in it consisting of a series of dots?  And, in order to “get the picture” you had to connect those dots?  Well, the government has given me such a picture and, after connecting those dots, I see a picture I don’t like.  But first, by way of introduction to what I mean:

Do you recall last February when the Obama administration pushed through a nearly $780 billion stimulus bill?  And, that the bill was passed without taking the time to read it?  It was rushed through to avoid a “crisis” and to jump start the economy.

Fast forward to the current debate about nationalizing health care and the most recent discussion surrounding the “public option” question.  Simply put, it allows the government to get into the health care insurance business and give you, the public, the option to dump your current private health care coverage in favor of government health care coverage. In the town hall meetings around the country, citizens are up in arms (and some just plain armed) about the government takeover of health care.  Especially in the area of government “intrusion” as it pertains to end of life decisions.

Now, this is where the “connecting the dots” comes into focus.  It may surprise you to know that the government is already moving full steam ahead in this area.

Within the stimulus bill was $1 billion+ in funding to establish a Federal Council On Comparative Effectiveness Research team!  And, on this “team” is a man by the name of Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of Rahm Emanuel.  And, Ezekiel is an advocate of quality vs quantity of life when it comes to health care expenditures.  Here is a telling quote with link following:

Emanuel, however, believes that “communitarianism” should guide decisions on who gets care. He says medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens . . . An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” (JAMA, Feb. 27, 2008).

I hope that this gets your attention as to what is going on behind the scenes in Washington D.C.  This is not being done in a vacuum.  They are not hiding anything.  It is all there for us to see.  The question becomes: will we do something about it or just continue to hide our collective heads in the sand?

Here now, for your reading pleasure (or not) is a link to a PDF article that spells out the whole health care fiasco if Obama has his way.  The Obama administration has already put some of the health care overhaul in place with your taxpayer dollars through the stimulus package passed back in February.  You seriously need to read this and arm yourself with the facts in order to defend our way of living from further intrusion of “Big Brother”, especially when it comes to life itself!

Let us remain vigilant, peacefully protesting, petitioning our elected representatives and voicing our God given right to speak out while we still can.

UPDATE 8-21-09

Here is a startling link to one patient’s dilemma.  In the state of Oregon assisted suicide is legal and, in this woman’s case, her insurer has decided not to pay for her treatment to combat her cancer BUT will cover the cost for her suicide!
