Dependence Always Involves Others
An article link posted below discusses the “hand wringing” going on within the auto industry’s concern that, while they lick their collective fingers and stick them in the air to see which way the market winds are blowing regarding alternative forms of transportation, they find themselves beholden to a new form of “foreign reliance”. This time it is not oil; it is precious metals needed to manufacture hybrids!

So, in our rush to become less dependent on foreign oil, are we going to find ourselves dependent on foreign precious metals instead? When are we going to drill here, drill now AND dig here, dig now? As much as I am in favor of “protecting the environment” I am also in favor of regulating exploration and removal of precious minerals (oil, gold, etc.) from domestic land in order to stop reliance on foreign whims, be they Arab or Asian.
